What to Expect During a Carpet Beetle Treatment
Carpet beetle larvae can damage carpets, rugs, clothing, upholstered furniture and other materials containing natural fibres. Because larvae often feed in quiet, undisturbed areas, an infestation may extend beyond the area where damage was first noticed.
Carpet beetle treatment begins with identifying areas of activity and considering other potential sources around the property. Depending on what is found, treatment may involve carpet edges, areas beneath furniture, rugs, concealed areas and, where relevant, the roof space.
This guide explains how to prepare for your carpet beetle treatment, what your technician may inspect and treat, what to expect after treatment, and practical steps that can help reduce future carpet beetle activity.
01
Booking Information
Booking and Treatment Time
Carpet beetle treatments generally take approximately one hour, although treatment time can vary depending on the extent of the infestation, the areas requiring inspection and treatment, and access around the property.
Your scheduled booking time is an arrival window. For example, if your arrival window is between 10:00 am and 12:00 noon, your technician may arrive at any time during that period. Please allow additional time after the arrival window for the treatment to be completed.
Before Your Appointment
When booking your treatment, let Surekill know where you have noticed carpet beetles, larvae, cast skins, damage to carpets or fabrics, or any other signs of activity. This information can help your technician identify areas that may require closer inspection.
Weather Conditions
Carpet beetle treatments are generally carried out indoors, so most services are not affected by normal weather conditions. If circumstances arise that may affect your appointment, Surekill will contact you.
Licensed and Insured Technicians
Surekill Pest Control is fully insured, and our pest management technicians are appropriately licensed and follow relevant EPA requirements and product label directions when carrying out carpet beetle treatments.
Free Service Period
Your carpet beetle treatment includes a three-month free service period. If you notice further carpet beetle activity during this period, contact Surekill Pest Control so we can discuss the activity and arrange further treatment where applicable.
Payment Options
Payment can be made by EFT/bank transfer, cash, EFTPOS or credit card. Payment is required before treatment commences.

How to Prepare for Carpet Beetle Treatment
Vacuum Thoroughly
Vacuum carpets, rugs and upholstered areas thoroughly before treatment. Pay particular attention to carpet edges along skirting boards, underneath furniture and other quiet or undisturbed areas where hair, dust, skin scales and pet fur can accumulate.
Move Furniture Where Practical
Where practical, move furniture and other items away from carpet edges so your technician can inspect and access areas normally covered by furniture. If an item is difficult or unsafe to move, leave it in place and discuss it with your technician.
Reduce Clutter
Remove unnecessary items from affected rooms and clear access to areas where carpet beetle activity or damage has been noticed. This helps your technician inspect potential feeding and harbourage areas.
Check Clothing and Stored Fabrics
Check clothing, blankets, rugs and other natural-fibre materials stored near affected areas for signs of carpet beetle larvae, cast skins or damage. Keep any items showing possible activity available to show your technician rather than moving them to another part of the property.
Vacuum Cleaner Contents
After vacuuming, empty the vacuum cleaner promptly. Place disposable vacuum contents or bags into a sealed rubbish bag and dispose of them outside the property.

03
Before Treatment
Discuss the Carpet Beetle Activity
When your technician arrives, show them where you have noticed carpet beetles, larvae, cast skins or damage to carpets, rugs, clothing or other materials. Let them know if activity has been found in more than one area of the property.
Property Inspection
Your technician may inspect carpet edges, underneath furniture, rugs, upholstered areas and other quiet or undisturbed locations where carpet beetle larvae may be feeding or developing.
Where relevant and safely accessible, the roof space may also be inspected, particularly where bird or rodent activity could be contributing to the infestation.
Pets
Keep pets away from areas being inspected and treated. Remove pet bedding, food and water bowls from the treatment area.
Fish Tanks and Bird Cages
Cover fish tanks, aquariums and bird cages if they are located within or near areas being treated. Your technician will advise of any additional precautions required.
Air Conditioning
Turn off air-conditioning and ventilation systems before treatment where requested by your technician.
Chemical Sensitivities
Tell Surekill before treatment if anyone at the property has a known chemical sensitivity. People with chemical sensitivities should remain away from treated areas for 24 hours, or until the treatment has completely dried and the area has been adequately ventilated, whichever is longer.

04
Carpet Beetle Treatment Process
Targeted Treatment
Your technician will determine the appropriate treatment based on where carpet beetle activity has been identified. Treatment may be directed to carpet edges, areas beneath furniture, rugs and other locations where larvae are feeding or harbouring.
Carpet Edges and Undisturbed Areas
Particular attention may be given to carpet edges along skirting boards and areas normally covered by furniture, as these locations can accumulate hair, dust, skin scales and other material that carpet beetle larvae may feed on.
Other Sources of Activity
Carpet beetle infestations are not always limited to carpets. Where necessary, your technician may investigate other potential sources such as stored fabrics, pet bedding, upholstered furniture or concealed areas.
Roof Space Treatment
Where carpet beetle activity is associated with a roof space, bird nesting or another source within the ceiling area, an appropriate treatment may be applied to accessible areas of the roof void.
Treatment According to the Property
Not every carpet beetle infestation requires the same treatment. Your technician will tailor the treatment to the areas of activity and the conditions identified during the inspection.

05
After Your Carpet Beetle Treatment
Re-Entry After Treatment
Keep people and pets away from treated areas until the products have dried and any re-entry instructions provided by your technician have been followed.
Avoid Disturbing Treated Areas
Avoid cleaning, washing or vacuuming treated carpet edges and other treated surfaces immediately after the service. Your technician will advise when normal cleaning can resume so the treatment is not unnecessarily removed.
Carpet Beetle Activity After Treatment
You may continue to notice adult beetles, larvae or other signs of activity for a period after treatment. This does not necessarily mean the treatment has been unsuccessful, particularly where carpet beetles have been developing in concealed or previously undisturbed areas.
Check Affected Materials
Continue checking carpets, rugs, clothing, stored fabrics and other affected materials for signs of activity or further damage. This can help identify whether another source of carpet beetles is present elsewhere in the property.
Further Activity
If you continue to notice carpet beetle activity after treatment, contact Surekill Pest Control and let us know what you are seeing. Your technician can advise whether further assessment or treatment may be required.

How to Help Keep Carpet Beetles Away
Vacuum Regularly
Vacuum carpets, rugs and upholstered furniture regularly, paying particular attention to carpet edges along skirting boards, underneath furniture and other quiet or undisturbed areas where hair, dust, skin scales and pet fur can accumulate.
Clean and Store Fabrics Carefully
Clean clothing, blankets and other natural-fibre items before storing them for long periods. Store susceptible items in sealed containers or securely closed storage bags where practical.
Clean Pet Bedding
Wash and clean pet bedding regularly and vacuum surrounding areas to reduce the accumulation of hair and other material that carpet beetle larvae may feed on.
Check Cut Flowers
Adult carpet beetles feed on pollen and nectar and can sometimes be brought indoors with cut flowers. Check flowers for beetles before bringing them inside.
Bird and Rodent Activity
Bird nests and animal remains can provide food sources for carpet beetle larvae. Prevent birds and rodents from entering roof spaces and other parts of the building, and address nesting or rodent problems where they occur.
Watch for Signs of Activity
Keep an eye out for carpet damage, bristly larvae, cast skins or adult carpet beetles. Finding activity early can help identify a developing infestation before more extensive damage occurs.
